The reading in brief
You and a licensed provider should agree on the product, the area and the risks before any needle is used. This page does not describe one clinic's steps. It gives you four documents to read and a checklist to bring.
Documents to read first
Read these in order:
- Read the FDA overview of dermal fillers.
- Read the FDA's cosmetic devices page on soft tissue fillers.
- Read the Cleveland Clinic patient page on dermal fillers as a treatment.
- Read the ASPS article on dissolving filler.
For each one, mark what it asks a patient to know or do before treatment. Compare your marks with what your provider tells you at the consultation.
Directives to carry out
Bring this checklist:
- Your medications, supplements and health conditions.
- Any past reaction to a filler or injection.
- The product name you were quoted.
- Your questions about risks and about reversing the filler.
Ask for the consent form ahead of time if you can, and read it before you sign.
Translator's note
We translate pre-treatment documents and do not examine patients, so this checklist is not medical advice. A licensed provider decides what is safe for you after examining you.
