Ask for the difference by product
Ask your provider to state the difference for the exact product being offered, and to show you where its label says so. This page does not compare the two groups in general terms. It shows you where to read and what to ask.
Three documents to open
Start with the FDA page on dermal fillers. Check whether the product you are offered is listed there, and what it says about use and warnings.
For background on a collagen stimulating material, there is a research paper on poly-L-lactic acid particles and collagen synthesis in vitro. It is a laboratory study, not patient guidance. Do not read it as a promise about results on a face.
Read the ASPS article on dissolving filler for one question: can the product be reversed if you do not like it?
Four questions on product type
Ask your provider:
- What is this product made of?
- Is it meant to add volume, to prompt your skin to change, or both, according to its label?
- Can it be dissolved or reversed?
- How many sessions are planned, and what is each one for?
Who picks the product
This site compares documents, not patients, so it gives no medical advice. A licensed provider chooses between product types after examining you.
