The plain reading
Preparing for Botox is a reading task before it is a medical one. This page lists what to read and what to bring. It gives no timelines or medication rules, because the product label and your own injector set those.
Documents to read
Three public documents cover Botox for patients. Read them in this order:
- Read the ASPS blog post on what you need to know about Botox.
- Read the MedlinePlus entry on Botox and botulinum toxin.
- Read the ASDS skin-treatment page on neuromodulators.
As you read, mark every line that tells a patient to do or avoid something. Those marks are your preparation list. Check each one against what your provider tells you.
Your action list
Before your appointment:
- List every medication and supplement you take.
- List your health conditions and any past reaction to an injection.
- Ask your provider what to avoid before treatment and for how long.
- Ask what to expect right after treatment and who to call if something looks wrong.
Keep a written note of each reply, since a spoken instruction is easy to misremember.
Translator's note
We turn Botox documents into checklists and do not treat patients, so this is not medical advice. If a document you read conflicts with your provider's instructions, ask the provider to explain the difference before treatment.
